○2002年開幕戦オーストラリアGP

プレビュー
"I am really looking forward to my first Formula One race, although I am a bit nervous about my first GP start. I hope we can be somewhere near the front, but realistically we still have work to do before we can expect results. The biggest change for me will be the increased level of technology in F1. Melbourne will be difficult, as I have never driven here before but, although I imagine it will be tough, I am optimistic."

プラクティスレポート
"I must say I am pretty happy with today! It was very exciting to have my first outing at a Grand Prix weekend and the first run on this circuit in Melbourne, and overall I am very pleased with how it went. The rainy spells meant we were able to try a variety of set ups which was very useful for me. I lost about ten minutes of running time towards the end of the second session due to a problem with my steering column, but otherwise things ran smoothly. There is still plenty of room to improve everywhere, but I didn't have any real problems with the car or with the circuit, so it is now just a question of working on the data with my engineers so that we can make improvements on my time for tomorrow."

クォリファイレポート
"Today was a tough day. I did my best and what happened was nobody's fault. Mechanical problems do happen. It was very difficult to drive Giancarlo's car in the wet. It was his seating position and, for example, I had no heel rest so I was pushing the pedals with my feet in the air! Also the car had a dry set-up."

レースレポート
"I was able to avoid the incident at the start. I just saw Ralf's car in the air and then lots of smoke everywhere, but managed to steer clear of things as I was far enough behind. After the restart I enjoyed a good battle with Pedro, and then overtook him when the safety car came in. But then I had an electronics problem that meant I couldn't select all the gears. The team called me in to the pits to try to fix the problem but, although I went out again, ultimately I had to retire. I seem to have gone through quite a lot this weekend, except a proper qualifying, so it has been a very exciting and interesting experience which I hope will set me up well for a better weekend in Malaysia."
